Mercy Street will meet this Saturday, April 20th (tomorrow!) at 5:30pm at Lakeland Community Church in Lee’s Summit. Childcare will be provided.

During the month of April we are focusing on Step Seven:

Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.   – 1 John 1:9

At first glance this step might seem too easy or silly.  Why would we need God’s help to remove our shortcomings?  Can’t we just throw them off ourselves?  We don’t even want them anyway.  Turns out its not as easy as you think.  Come to Mercy Street this weekend to find out more.

This weeks resource recommendation is a podcast called The Next Right Thing by Emily P. Freeman.  It is a short, reflective podcast that offers a little space for your soul to breathe so you can discern your next right thing in love.  You can find it in your regular podcast app or click the link above and listen directly from your computer.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Even though there hasn’t been a post for a few weeks, Mercy Street still meets every week and will meet this Saturday, February 16th at 5:30pm at Lakeland Community Church in Lee’s Summit.  If the meeting is ever cancelled (usually due to weather), the cancellation notice will be posted here.

During the month of February we are focusing on Step Five:

Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being, the exact nature of our wrongs.

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.  – James 5:16

The Events tab has been updated with several upcoming events, including the 2019 Silent Saturday schedule, meditation events at the KC Symphony and an Enneagram workshop in March.  Check it out!

Meeting Cancelled!

Our meeting tonight, January 12th, is cancelled due to weather.

We can continue to learn about Step Four, even though we won’t be face to face tonight.

An excerpt on Step Four from A Hunger for Healing, by J. Keith Miller:

“Working Step Four can be the beginning of lasting character changes.  We’ve committed our life and our will to God to the extent we can, and now we are going to clean house spiritually to find out why we are at war within ourselves and with the people close to us.  By doing the next few steps we can uncover denied Sin-behaviors and character defects that have blocked our spiritual growth.  This same Sin is at the root of our dishonesty and our critical, intolerant spirit and our exaggerated feelings of anger, guilt, self-pity, pain, shame, grandiosity, and jealousy. I never saw that these inner problems were what were making me miserable.  They were just “invisible” discomforts that other people sometimes saw and were affected by but that I couldn’t isolate as being problems caused by my behavior and attitudes.”

Articles on Step Four, by the NACR:

And as mentioned last week, the Step Four video on resentments can be found here.

If you need to talk with someone please don’t hesitate to contact another group member or send an e-mail to mercystreetkc (at) gmail.com.  Recovery continues no matter the weather!

Everyone stay safe and warm tonight!

Happy New Year!

Mercy Street will meet this Saturday, January 12th at 5:30pm at Lakeland Community Church in Lee’s Summit.  However there is a winter weather advisory in effect for Saturday.  It is possible the meeting will be cancelled due to weather.  If you would like to get a text notification of the meeting status, please send an e-mail to mercystreetkc (at) gmail.com.  An update will also be posted on this website.

During the month of January we are focusing on Step Four.

Made a searching a fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. – Lamentations 3:40

Last Saturday we watched a video from the National Association for Christian Recovery on the fear inventory.  If you missed it or would like to watch again, here is the link to the video:

The NACR also has another Step Four video on the resentment inventory.  This one is a bit longer and can be found at the link below.

The Step Four prayer from last week, also courtesy of the NACR:

Dear God,

I am afraid.
A lot.
I have been afraid for a long time.
I don’t know what the future holds.
I can’t control it.
Sometimes when I am afraid, I don’t want to feel anything.
See the problem?
I need help.
Give me the patience and courage
to do a full inventory of my fears.
Help me to see with clarity
what has been getting in the way
of living a sane and sober life.

Amen
